Fossil ammonite, Morocco
This fossil ammonite has been cross-sectioned to show its internal chambers but has not been polished. It is mounted on a sterling silver display stand.
Ammonites are extinct relatives of modern day nautiloids and squid. The largest known ammonite in the world would have been 8 1/2 feet (2.59 metres) across if it were complete, so although this is a fairly large piece in 1:12 scale it is entirely appropriate.
15/16 inch (2.4 cm) wide, 7/16 inch (1.1 cm) deep and 15/16 inch (2.4 cm) tall.
