Crocoite, Australia. Glass pedestal
A fundraiser for Australian wildlife.A gorgeous, naturally coloured specimen of crocoite from the Adelaide Mine, Dundas, Tasmania, Australia. These thin crystals are what I think are known as "jack straw" crystals, which you can see from the mass of crystals, rather like the pieces in a game of Jack Straws. Since the crystals are fragile, I have mounted this with a removable glass cover to protect it. I have not glued the cover in place so that you have the choice of how to display it and can secure the cover yourself if you wish. Crocoite is a lead ore, so it is sensible to wash one's hands after touching it.
1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter for glass rim, 1 1/4 inches (3.2 cm) with cover, 7/8 inch (2.2 cm) tall without cover.
