Butterfly wing reversible display, two morpho species, sterling silver. Peru
Genuine colourful butterfly wings are encased in clear resin and then framed in sterling silver. The butterflies are sustainably raised in the Peruvian Amazon area and are collected once they have lived their natural life span, about one to three weeks. The preservation and silversmithing is also done in Peru.
The patterned side is a mosaic of blue morpho and Sulkowsky morpho species butterfly wings. The blue side is the classic blue Morpho butterfly wing. The support for the display pivots so that you can alter the angle to best catch the light and show off the gorgeous colours. I have photographed the blue morpho side so that you can also see the 925 sterling silver stamp on the frame.
As a bonus, this piece can also be suspended from a chain as a pendant, or, if you have size 4 fingers, worn as ring.
13/16 inch (2.0 cm) wide, 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) tall and approximately 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) deep, depending on exactly how you angle the piece.
