Butterfly & moth wing reversible display in sterling silver, Peru
Iridescent moth & butterfly wings are encased in clear resin and then framed in sterling silver. The insects are sustainably raised in the Peruvian Amazon area and are collected once they have lived their natural life span, about one to three weeks. The preservation and silversmithing is also done in Peru.
The orange and blue side is a mosaic from a Urania rhipheus day flying moth and a blue morpho. The blue side is the classic blue Morpho butterfly wing. The support for the display swivelsso that you can alter the angle to best catch the light and show off the gorgeous colours. I have photographed the blue morpho side so that you can also see the 925 sterling silver stamp on the frame.
As a bonus, this piece can also be suspended from a chain as a pendant, or, if you have size 4 fingers, worn as ring.
13/16 inch (2.0 cm) wide, 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) tall and approximately 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) deep, depending on exactly how you angle the piece.
