| Natural Science collection, individual specimens |
 |
| The lighted specimens are mounted on black bases. They will work with standard 12V
lighting systems or can be simply connected to a battery. A 9V battery works very well. The expected
life of the LED is 50,000 hours, so it should never need replacing, and it generates minimal heat.
The wires come bared at the end for easy wiring into a miniature plug or directly as you wish. |
 |
| The wooden bases for the other specimens are black walnut, and all labels are readable. |

A small display of six genuine fossil Devonian crinoid, or sea lily, discs from Michigan. In life the discs
were stacked to make the stalk of the crinoid, and the centre back specimen is a short length of stem.
Each species had a different design of disc, and I've chosen a variety for this display.
The display is in 1:12 scale, measuring 7/8 inch (2.2 cm) long by 5/8 inch (1.6 cm) deep by 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) high.

This is a genuine tiny fossil display in 1:12 scale. It is a piece of matrix (rock) absolutely full of
the fossilized remains of sea creatures from the Devonian period, 417-354 million years ago. This specimen has a myriad of fossil pieces
including a clear crinoid disk on the front left, bryozoan at the top centre, and a shell fragment at the back.
This would look wonderful in a study, on a desk or bookshelf, or as a conversation piece.
The display is in 1:12 scale, measuring 7/8 inch (2.2 cm) long by 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) deep by 3/8 inch (0.9 cm) high.

A dramatic specimen of crystalline bismuth. The colours
are irridescent blues with a touch of purple on a silver base. To me it is fascinating as a mineral, but the angular
geometry also makes it look like a piece of modern art. I have carefully selected a crystal that is intricate enough
to work well in 1:12 scale.
Bismuth is a metallic element that rarely occurs naturally in its pure state. The crystals are
grown in controlled conditions in kilns, and are actually bright silver, but when cooled relatively quickly the crystal surfaces oxidize, and produce the wonderful irridesence that is so
striking and attractive.
The piece is in 1:12 scale, measuring 7/8 inch (2.2 cm) wide, 5/8 inch (1.6 cm) deep and 3/8 inch (0.95 cm) high.
#516, $8. |
